FAQs

What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a treatment performed by a chiropractor to correct something called a subluxation, which is a misaligned bone in the spine, pelvis or extremities.
What can cause a subluxation?
Subluxations result from trauma. Trauma can be mechanical (car accidents, slip & falls, sports injuries), chemical (pollution, poor diet, drugs/alcohol) or emotional (relationships, financial, job) in nature.
How does a chiropractor find subluxations?

Chiropractors utilize palpation (touch) to analyze the spine. In our office, we also utilize x-rays to confirm the examination findings and make sure that nothing is missed prior to starting treatment.

How does a subluxation cause symptoms?

Our brain communicates with every muscle, organ, gland and cell in the body. The spine is the protective armor around the central (most important) part of our nervous system. If the spine subluxates causing pressure on the nerve, anywhere that nerve goes to, that body part no longer functions properly. It would be comparable to a kink in a garden hose. There may be a trickle of water when the hose is kinked, but when you remove the kink (subluxation) the normal flow returns.

How is an adjustment done?
Adjustments can be performed a number of different ways. Most chiropractic schools train their students to manually manipulate the bones. There are also specialized tables that drop or flex, as well as instruments that can be used to adjust the spine or extremities.

Does an adjustment hurt? Adjustments are typically painless and can provide immediate relief. In some situations, mild soreness can arise following treatment. In those situations, applying cold packs often resolves any soreness.

What conditions can chiropractic care help with?

The most common conditions people see chiropractors for are neck pain and back pain. However, many other conditions can improve with chiropractic care. Subluxations can affect digestion, breathing, blood pressure and many other health problems. By removing subluxations, a chiropractor can improve many of these conditions.

How often do I need to go?

Each treatment plan is unique to the individual. Depending on factors like severity, duration of the condition, degeneration, etc. a treatment plan is created. In most cases, treatment is the most frequent (2-3 times per week) in the beginning when working towards relief of symptoms and tapered down as symptoms decrease. Many patients choose to continue on a maintenance basis when their conditions have resolved.

How much does it cost?

As each treatment plan is unique, so is the cost of the care. Whether you have insurance or not will affect the cost. We provide several different payment plan options to work towards making the care affordable to everyone.

How much will my insurance cover my treatment cost?

Short answer is maybe. Every insurance company is different and each policy within every insurance can vary. We provide insurance benefits checks to determine what coverage each policy has. Insurance coverage has changed with rising deductibles and copays. We will explain the recommended treatment plan and go over what insurance benefits each policy has.
